Work on the Casa Amatller

In the coming months one of the buildings that make up the “Block of Discord” on Passeig de Gràcia, between Carrer Aragó and Carrer Consell de Cent, will have renovation work done on it. This is the Casa Amatller, the former residence of Antoni Amatller, chocolatier, photographer and collector.
The passage of time and the climate have affected the façade, which was built in the year 1900, the work of the architect Puig i Cadafalch. This means that various features of it need to be checked, including the Sgraffito and the crow-stepped gable. The Casa Amatller was designed blending several styles and using various materials. This makes the restoration process more difficult, but since the owner had a keen interest in photography, there are images of all the original aspects of the building, some of which have disappeared over the years.
